Brief Description

The name Masakh’iSizwe comes from the Nguni languages and means “Let’s Build the Nation”. The aim of the programme is to address skills shortages whilst empowering youth by providing them an opportunity to obtain tertiary qualification through full-time studies at Higher Education Institutions in the Western Cape Province.

The Masakh’iSizwe (MiS) Bursary Programme was established in 2006 by the Western Cape Government in order to make available cohorts of trained professionals in the engineering and built environmental fields.

  • Tuition fees
  • Accommodation and meals (or transport costs)
  • Support programmes
  • All prescribed books and materials

Study Area Of Focus

 The MiS Bursary Programme awards external bursaries for studies at Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the Western Cape Province (WCP) for a field of study relating to a degree or diploma in the transport, engineering and built environment or any other disciplines deemed to be scarce and critical by the Department of Infrastructure.

It partnered with higher education institutions (HEI), non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the relevant professional bodies to develop professionals in engineering and the built environment fields by offering bursaries to study towards a degree or higher diploma in the following disciplines:

Eligibility And Requirements

  • A South African citizen
  • Students accepted or intending to study at a Higher Education Institution in the Western Cape
  • Preference will be given, but not limited to:
  • Persons with disabilities, the financially disadvantaged, female learners and applicants from the Western Cape.
